Department of mechanical engineering of JNTU College of Engineering ,Pulivendula with an intake of 60 students ,is started in the year 2006 by Dr.Y.S.Rajasekhara Reddy, Hon'ble Chief minister of Andhra Pradesh .The building is meant for conducting the lecture classes and conducting laboratory classes .It has plinth area of 2139 Sq.ms.Out of this total area , 1068 Sq.ms is allotted for laboratories and the remaining 1071 Sq.ms is used for lecture classes Each corner room in both the floors is asigned for conducting seminar classes. It consists of 7 spacious laboratory halls and 7 lecture classes and 4 saff rooms.

         The Department is having separate computer lab facility in this building .A Well ventilated workshop building is attached to the Department to accommodate the basic workshop facilities of first and heavy machinary of the remaining semisters .It has a space of 1000 Sq.ms.In the 3rd phase of infrasturcture development , one more workshop is planned to quip the lathe machines and other machine tools

The department is having the following laboratory facilities :
1. Engineering workshop and IT workshop .
2. Fuels and Lubrication lab.
3. Mechanics of materials lab.
4. Mechanics of fluids and Hydraulic Machinery lab.
5. Thermal Engineering lab .
6. Material science and Metallurgy lab .
7. Production Technology lab.

         The full fleged activities of Training & Placement cell are started in the Department in the year 2007 to enhance communication skills and personality development of the students .The department has also established "Mechanical Engineering Students Association (MESA)"Which acts as a flat form to conduct various academic and extra curricular activities for the benifit if student community . The Department is putting its all efforts to improve the performance of below average students in all respects.

         The department maintains a departmental library with collection of 280 textbooks and 48 C.Ds with video lectures on various advanced topics related to mechanical engineering. It has good collection of proceedings on various national and international conferences .

Though the Department is newly established , it is bridging the gap between the needs of the academics and industry. The department regularly arranges industrial tours for the students in each semister to develop the industry - institute intraction . The department has dedicated staff with highly qualified to motive the students to satisfy the academic needs . They used to participate in Paper Presentations,Paper publications and delivering lectures at National and International level. The staff encourages the students to participate in various technical and cultural compititions. With the team spirit of staff and students, a Natiional technical symposium "YANTRA'08" is initiated and planned to conduct such programes every year. In university exams the students got good results.
