Department of Mechanical engineering JNTU College of Engineering, Pulivendula started in the year 2006 with an intake of 60 students. The department building was inaugurated on 6th September 2007 by Dr. Y.S. Rajashekhara Reddy, Hon’ ble Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh. The building is meant for conducting the lecture classes and conducting laboratory classes. It has plinth area of 180 acres. It consists of 7 spacious laboratory halls and seven lecture classes and four staff rooms. The department is having separate computer lab facility in this building. A Well ventilated workshop building is attached to the department to accommodate the basic workshop facilities of first year and heavy machinery of the remaining semesters. It has a space of 1000 sq. meters. In the 3nd phase of infrastructure development, one more workshop is planned to equip the lathe machines and other machine tools.

The department is having the following laboratory facilities: 1. Engineering workshop and IT workshop 2. Fuels and Lubrication lab 3. Mechanics of materials Lab 4. Mechanics of fluids and Hydraulic Machinery lab 5. Thermal Engineering lab 6. Material Science and Metallurgy lab 7. Production Technology lab

The full fledged activities of Training & Placement cell have started in the department in the year 2007 to enhance communication skills and personality development of the students. The department has also established “Mechanical Engineering Students Association (MESA)” which acts as a flat form to conduct various academic and extra curricular activities for the benefit of student community. The department is putting its all efforts to improve the performance of below average students in all respects. The department maintains a ‘departmental library’ with collection of 280 text books and 48 CDs with video lectures on various advanced topics related to Mechanical engineering. It has good collection of proceedings on various national and international conferences.

Though the department is newly established, it is bridging the gap between the needs of the academics and the industry. The department regularly arranges industrial tours for the students in each semester to develop the industry- institute interaction. The department has dedicated highly qualified staff to motivate the students to satisfy their academic needs. They participated in several academic activities such as paper presentations, paper publications, delivering key note lectures at national and international level. The staff encourages the students to participate in various technical and cultural competitions. With the team spirit of staff and students, a national technical symposium “YANTRA’08” is initiated and the department plans to conduct such programs every year. In university exams the students have performed very well.
